Support-A-Pooch!

Occasionally we are asked what it costs to get a pup from the shelter in California to a home in Canada. Below we have detailed out the rough costs involved. Please remember that some pups cost more than others.

Female: $117

  • Spay: $55
  • Vaccinations: $20
  • Flea Treatment: $2
  • Heartworm Test: $15
  • Microchip: $10
  • Kennel Cough Treatment: $5
  • Health Certificate: $10

Male: $107

  • Neuter: $45
  • Vaccinations: $20
  • Flea Treatment: $2
  • Heartworm Test: $15

  • Kennel Cough Treatment: $5
  • Health Certificate: $10

Flight Costs: $1070

  • Roundtrip Airfare (pups cannot go unaccompanied): $700
  • Crates x 4: $160
  • Crate space on airplane: $210 (for seven dogs)

Total cost to bring up seven pups: $1070 + $110 x 7 dogs =$1840

Our adoption fees of $280 barely cover costs. We need to rely on donations to cover emergency costs (Buster cost $1200 while Whiskey cost $1000).

As CaliCan continues to grow, the likelihood of escalating veterinary and transportation costs will increase. In order to keep adoption fees reasonable, we are introducing a new program!

Support-A-Pooch! Any donations over $20 will get you a tax receipt!
